Wasatch Range Eventing Association

About Us

The WRE-ix is dedicated to the education, development and promotion of the sport of eventing along the Wasatch Front

The WRE-IX is a community of event riders in Utah. We provide a way to network with other eventers, get together during social events at local shows, and find trainers to help you achieve your riding goals.

To further the education and development, our community strives to support and organize clinics with renowned riders and competitors as well as local 2-phase events, and make participation in these events affordable for our local eventers.

Emily Biger

WRE-IX President
Emily moved to Utah in 2015 from her home in the greater Seattle-area. She has been riding for 15 years but only started eventing in 2016. She loves how supportive the eventing community is, everyone is always there to give a word on encouragement or a smile. Though she has only been in Utah for a short time, she has witnesses a large growth in the eventing community and hopes to help foster that growth through her service in the WRE-IX. She hopes to help provide many membership opportunities to encourage participation and bring education resources to the community.
Steph Whitlow

Steph Whitlow

WRE-IX Treasurer
Steph has been riding and competing horses for 21 years. Before switching to eventing in 2016, her first 14 years were in the Arabian and half-Arabian industry. She worked as an assistant trainer for two nationally recognized Arabian trainers, as well as competitively training her own horses from a blank slate through the national level. Her switch to eventing was welcomed with open arms by the people in the eventing community, and the generosity and kindness from all the people has allowed her to never look back on that decision. Steph excitingly took on the role of WRE-IX treasurer the start of the 2020 season, and has dedicated her time and efforts towards re-organizing all the club’s financials and tax requirements. She is ecstatic to be a part of such an amazing community and is dedicated to maintaining the club’s financial well-being.
Travis

Travis Atkinson

He began racing at the age of 14 and continued his racing career for 7 years, racing all over the western United States. While racing he also led a successful 10 year, professional bull riding career winning prestigious titles all over the United States and Canada. Travis continued training and prepping thoroughbreds until 2018 when he decided to focus his attention on Three Day Eventing. Travis has been eventing since 2013 and has successfully competed through Intermediate level. Travis has spent the last four years training under the 4* course designer and accomplished upper-level rider, James Atkinson. Area IX Young Riders Program

Area IX Young Riders Mission Statement:

“Building a community of safe and effective riders that help each other reach goals and dreams.”

The Area IX Young Rider Program is offered through the United States Eventing Association (USEA) for riders 21 years of age or younger. The program accommodates riders of all levels. Our hope is to generate involvement early on, helping all levels of riders realize their goals and achieve success through dedication, hard work, and discipline.

The sport of Eventing includes three major disciplines which every horse and rider must complete: Dressage, Cross-Country and Show Jumping. Eventing is one of the three equestrian sports represented at the Olympics where men and women compete, equally, with one another. The Young Riders of today make up the future of this wonderful sport.

What is the purpose of the Young Rider Program?

  • To encourage and support the sport of Eventing in competitors twenty-one years of age and younger.
  • To make Young Riders aware of educational opportunities – coaching, course walks, clinics, camps, mentorships, etc.
  • To promote good sportsmanship and the facilitation of working as a team member.
  • To develop respect for the horse, without whom none of this is possible.
  • To develop camaraderie among Young Riders, thus, hopefully, developing lifelong friendships and a commitment to the sport, which will be carried on as members of the USEA, volunteers at local events, coaches, trainers, competitors, and consumers of equine products.
  • To field a team of Intermediate level Young Riders who will represent our Area IX at the three-star level (CH-YR***) at the North American Youth Championships (NAYC).
  • To field a team of Preliminary level Young Riders who will represent our Area IX at the two-star level (CH-J**) at the North American Youth Championships (NAYC).
